Entrepreneur Panel Explores the Market—and the Medicine—Driving Behavioral Health

Dan Gebremedhin Dan Gebremedhin is a Partner at Flare Capital Partners and serves on the Board of Flare portfolio companies Eden Health and Somatus. Prior to joining Flare Capital, Dan served as a Medical Director at the Harvard Pilgrim Health Plan. Dan spent over 8 years as a practicing Internal Medicine Physician at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School, after completing Internal Medicine Residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital in 2010. He has served as a Health Policy Advisor for Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker and currently sits on the Massachusetts State Board of Nursing Home Administrators. Dan earned a BS from the University of California, San Diego, an MD from the Morehouse School of Medicine, and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Seth Feuerstein Seth Feuerstein is a seasoned healthcare executive and is also on the faculty of the Yale School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. There, he is also the founder and Executive Director of the Center for Digital Health and the Director of Innovation to Impact, as well as on the advisory board of the Yale Center for Biomedical and Interventional Technology. He has overseen and built national care innovation models and has worked to develop, study and scale technologically based innovations to enhance access, data collection, research and care in healthcare including founding and running a behavioral health software form that is now built into more than 100 million benefit lives in the US as well as in other languages and international health systems. This company was acquired by Magellan Health where he served as the Chief Medical and Innovation officer. Considered a global leader in the field of behavioral health innovation, digital health, healthcare innovation and other related fields, he has also been appointed as a senior advisor to the Department of Defense for behavioral health and suicide prevention, the Scientific Advisory Board of NASA’s Translational Research Institute, and the clinical advisory boards of multiple payers. Seth has a variety of additional board roles at digital health companies, is on the board of the State of Connecticut bioscience venture fund, and also serves as a consulting psychiatrist for the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. He is actively involved in the community, having launched Little Wonder, a non-profit organization that supports cancer patients and their loved ones by leveraging technology to improve their treatment experience with positive non-treatment related events such as concerts and theater to drive improved personal and clinical outcomes. Seth received his bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, his medical and law degrees from New York University, and completed his medical internship and psychiatry residency at Yale University.

Reena Pande As Chief Medical Officer of AbleTo, Reena serves as a passionate voice for the need to bridge the gaps between medical health and behavioral health. She spearheads AbleTo’s data analytics and outcomes research. Prior to her work at AbleTo, Dr. Pande was a cardiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA and Instructor at Harvard Medical School. Reena Pande earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from Harvard University, her M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and a Masters degree in Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health. She completed her internship, residency training, and fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease and Vascular Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Samir Malik Samir Malik is the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Genoa Telepsychiatry, a role he came into through the acquisition of the company he co-founded, 1DocWay. Prior to 1DocWay, Samir was the President of Signature Healthcare, and CEO of ZipCare Transportation. From 2010 to 2012, Samir was the Director of Strategic Planning at CenterPointe Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, where he built a new model for outpatient mental health programs. Prior to CenterPointe Hospital, Samir’s career began with McKinsey & Co. Samir received his Bachelor of Science in Economics at Penn and his MBA at Wharton.

Corbin Petro Corbin Petro is the CEO and Co-Founder of Eleanor Health, the first addiction and mental health services provider designed to deliver long-term patient recovery outcomes and modeled on value-based care delivery and payments. Eleanor provides comprehensive, whole-person, tech-enabled services including medication, therapy, psychiatry, and peer coaching services for mental health and substance misuse in outpatient clinics, virtually, and in the community and patients’ homes. Previously, Petro was the founding CEO and President of Benevera Health, a first-of-its-kind payer/provider joint venture (JV) encompassing two businesses: Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare’s New Hampshire insurance business and a newly formed population health services company. Petro has an extensive background in healthcare including as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Massachusetts Department of Medicaid (MassHealth), a $13 billion agency providing health care to 1.4 million Massachusetts residents, advising a US Senator on health reform, and roles at Bain and Company, Goldman Sachs, Deloitte Consulting, and American Management Systems. Petro was honored as one of fifteen healthcare executives under 40 named a 2018 Up and Comer by Modern Healthcare. She received a BA from Yale University and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. She is married, has two sons, and resides in the greater Boston area.
